Morning links: BYU, Utah ranked among best for sports lovers; Nick Rimando helps his case for USMNT

Money Magazine and Sports Illustrated teamed up to rank the 100 best colleges for sports lovers, and both BYU and Utah made the list.

The rankings — which are based on three main factors, including their Best Colleges Ranking, student athlete opportunities and fan experience — had BYU at No. 82 with individual rankings of No. 5 in Best Colleges, No. 329 in athlete opportunity and No. 77 in fan experience.

The University of Utah came in a No. 97 on the list with rankings of No. 106 in Best Colleges, No. 106 in athlete opportunities and No. 80 in fan experience.

Stanford topped the list, followed by Notre Dame, Michigan and Duke.

Nick Rimando helps his case for USMNT roster spot

Steve Davis of Four Four Two looked at the MLS players who helped their cases for the United States Men’s National Team after the first week, and Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando made the list.

Davis had Rimando in the Looking Good section, saying, “He stymied Jozy Altidore early in the match at Rio Tinto with a nice reaction save and got the best of Sebastian Giovinco on a PK showdown — all helpful in a scoreless draw at home. He’s a cool customer. That’s why Bruce Arena would trust him even in a big, big occasion.”

Joe Ingles makes Zach Lowe’s Luke Walton All-Stars

ESPN’s Zach Lowe named his 12-man Luke Walton All-Stars, and Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles earned a starting spot on the team consisting of “a list of role players, journeymen, and castoffs thriving in unexpected circumstances.”

After talking about Ingles’ path to the Jazz, Lowe wrote, “Ingles just keeps the machine churning. He shoots now when he’s open, and sometimes even when he’s not, and has hit 44 percent from deep — third best in the league. He is one the NBA’s canniest extra passers. He pushes the ball after snaring a rebound, and he can move things along with a functional pick-and-roll. Playing decisively makes slow people seem fast.”

Other starters on the team include Michael Beasley, James Johnson, Dion Waiters, and Ish Smith.
