Morning links: Utah picked to go to the Rose Bowl; Weber State called a Cinderella
Another week of ESPN’s bowl predictions are out, and one writer has some lofty expectations for the Utes.
While Brett McMurphy has Utah facing off against West Virginia in the Alamo Bowl, Mark Schlabach sees the Utes in an even more high-profile destination.
He has Utah heading to the Rose Bowl to face off against the Michigan Wolverines.
Both writers have the BYU Cougars in the Poinsettia Bowl against former WAC and MWC foe Wyoming.
Weber State a Cinderella team
Matt Norlander of CBS Sports looked at the top 10 Cinderella teams, and Weber State made the list.
He writes, “Randy Rahe’s team loses a pro in Joel Bolomboy, but everyone else is back. WSU was an NCAA Tournament team a season ago. Jeremy Senglin, a crafty shooting guard with a penchant for breaking down zones, is going to have a big year. Rahe’s team plays smart and will have at least four guys capable of shooting from deep.”
Also on the list are Princeton, Harvard and Belmont.
Gordon Hayward a top 10 small forward
Nico Martinez of Fadeaway world ranked Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz as the No. 6 best small forward in the NBA.
Martinez writes, “The Jazz are almost a lock to make the playoffs this season. The only thing that might stop them from getting there is and injury to their best player, Gordon Hayward. Hayward is one of the best scorers on this list. While he is not the loudest player in the league, he can light it up at any time. If you’re not convinced, just take a look at his stat line for the 2015-2016 season: 19.7 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds.”
Ranked ahead of Hayward are Carmelo Anthony, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Kevin Durant and LeBron James.
