Ricky Rubio takes on Europe and Joe Ingles

Ricky Rubio had himself a couple of really good days — in Turkey and on Twitter.

On Sunday, Rubio scored 12 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to catapult Spain past host Turkey for a 73-56 win in the EuroBasket Round of 16 at Sinan Erdem Arena in Istanbul.

A day later, the Utah Jazz point guard did something even more impressive. He managed to match wits with the Jazz’s resident funny man, Joe Ingles.

Rubio then Joe Inglesed Joe Ingles by turning an innocuous tweet by the fourth-year small forward into a very funny exchange.

Rubio’s response was a hilarious burn:

Not to be outdone, of course, Ingles had his own comeback, poking fun at Rubio’s long hair, which recently was put up in a man bun.

Rubio got in the humorous last word with another Joe Inglesesque diss:

Though the Jazz roster is loaded with oodles of international talent, Rubio is the team’s only player who’s participating in the Euro tournament. (Former Utah power forward Boris Diaw’s French team was eliminated over the weekend.)

Rubio’s stats don’t exactly stand out — certainly not like his hair, as Ingles might point out — but he has been solid as the Spaniards won their first six games. Spain, the defending Euro champion, breezed past Montenegro, Czech-Republic, Romania, Croatia, Hungary and Turkey, as Rubio, Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Sergio Rodriguez & Co. beat those six by an average of 27 points.

The 6-foot-4 Rubio has averaged 11 points, 4.2 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 20.8 minutes an outing. Spain has outscored its opponents by 88 points with the playmaker on the court.

Perhaps most impressively, Rubio has hit 12 of 25 3-pointers (48 percent) during this six-game Euro run. The Jazz would love if he averaged anywhere near that this upcoming season, considering the 26-year-old has only been a 31.5 percent 3-point shooter over his six-year NBA career in Minnesota.

Barring another offensive assault on his old roommate — Ingles played in Barcelona with him during the 2010-11 season — Rubio’s next opponent will be Germany in the Euro quarterfinals. That game will take place Wednesday (9:45 a.m. MDT) and will be televised live on ESPN and on LiveBasketball.TV.

Ingles isn’t the only one who’s noticed Rubio’s changed appearance this offseason — or teased him about it.
